Claim the discount before checkout
Ask for the first-time discount before you pay. Online CBD stores often issue one code per email address, per household, and per payment method. Join the email list with the address you will use on the order. Dispensaries in states with legal adult use post a first-visit deal on the deals page or at the register. Ask the budtender. The code field sits on the cart page or the payment page. Enter it there. Do not finish the order and then ask for a refund of the difference. Most stores will not apply a new-customer rate after the sale posts.
Know the size of the deal
First-order rates at CBD retailers run from 10% to 25%. Dispensary first-visit deals often add a low-cost item: a one-cent pre-roll, a free 10 mg edible, or a 1 gram flower sample. A 20% code on a $60 bottle saves $12. A 10% code saves $6. Compare that number against the regular price at two other stores. A large percent on an inflated list price is not a discount.
Parameters to compare
- Discount percent and minimum spend
- Proof of eligibility: email, phone number, ID, or medical card
- Exclusions: sale items, bundles, bulk sizes, subscriptions
- Expiry date and one-use limits
- Stacking rules with loyalty points or free shipping
- Return window after the order arrives
- Batch lab report (COA) for the product you receive
- Delta-9 THC content printed on the label
Pitfalls
- A free trial that signs you into a recurring shipment at full price. Read the cancel terms first.
- List prices raised before the promotion. Check a second retailer.
- Codes sold on coupon sites. Many harvest card data or email.
- Discounts tied to a no-return clause.
- No certificate of analysis. Ask for the COA that matches the batch number on the package.
- Disease claims. A seller who says CBD cures cancer, arthritis, or epilepsy makes a claim the FDA has not approved.
Rules and limits
Federal law caps hemp-derived delta-9 THC at 0.3% on a dry weight basis. Adult-use dispensaries check ID at 21 and over. Medical programs in many states serve patients at 18 and over with a state card. First-time patient discounts at dispensaries often run 15% to 25% and may repeat at a birthday or a renewal date.
Ask for these details in writing: the percent, the exclusions, the expiry, and the COA. If a store will not put the terms in an email or on the product page, buy elsewhere.
