Answer first
Open a maps app. Search "cannabis dispensary." Turn on the "Open now" filter. Call each store before you drive. Posted hours go stale. A two-minute call confirms the door is unlocked, the product is in stock, and the staff will take your ID.
Five steps to confirm a store is open
- Search the map and apply the "Open now" filter.
- Tap a result and read the hours for today, not the weekly block.
- Call the number in the listing. Ask for the closing time and the last entry time.
- Ask if the store sells adult-use, medical, or both. A license can cover one.
- Ask about order ahead. A paid or held order keeps product at the counter.
Hours come from the license and the city
California retailers may sell cannabis between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Cities can set tighter limits. A shop in one city may close at 8 p.m. while a shop 20 miles away closes at 10 p.m. State license records list the retailer name and license status. Check the record before you drive.
An "open now" filter shows posted hours, not stock
Map hours come from the store or from user edits. A holiday, a short staff, or a power outage can close the door with no update. Delivery windows shift the same way. Ask for the cutoff for same-day delivery. Ask if the driver checks ID at the door.

CBD store or dispensary
A CBD store sells hemp products. Federal law defines hemp as cannabis with 0.3% THC or less on a dry weight basis. A licensed dispensary sells cannabis with higher THC and holds a state license. Ask for a certificate of analysis (COA) for any CBD product. The COA lists cannabinoid content and the lab name. The FDA has not approved CBD for use in food or as a supplement. The only approved CBD drug is Epidiolex.
Before you go
- Bring a state ID or passport. Adult-use sales require age 21 in most states.
- Bring cash. Federal law limits banking access for cannabis businesses, so many shops run card-free.
- Check purchase limits. California allows 28.5 grams of flower and 8 grams of concentrate per adult-use customer.
- Read the label for THC and CBD content per serving.
- Ask for the return policy before you pay.
